Caesarea – “The City of Herod”:
Just a 35 minutes drive from Tel Aviv The city of “Caesarea” was built by “King Herod” on the first century BC, he planed the city according to he’s studies in Rome. it was a city built by classical roman standards, big theater, major port , two Hippodrome’s for chariot races and other games and more public and private buildings.
“King Herod’s” palace by the sea is a masterpiece, reveling a grand pool next to the sea with a bar in the middle! . Its harbor was the biggest man-made port at the time of its construction, and the city eventually became the capital of the province and the headquarters of “King Herod”
The city also have a Christian connection… scullers believe that “Paulus the Messenger” or by his Jewish name- “Shaul Hatarsi” was in the city’s jail just next to Herod’s palace. “Paulus” wrote most of the scrolls in the New Testament and was the “living spirit” in “telling” Christianity to the people in the years after Jesus.
In the last few years the excavation of “Caesarea” reveled exiting new revelations, and the development of the site has been phenomenal! you have restaurants and shops, so you can even drink a glass of wine when you tour this site.
